He has strapped himself to the outside of a helicopter to shoot aerial photos and hiked up Mt. McKinley for skiing shots. No one can accuse John Terence Turner of ever taking the easy way out. And, because of the effort he puts into his job, no action/outdoor sports/location photographer is better known in the United States.

Turner's signature photos almost always contain breathtaking backgrounds and expert sports models. His skiers, climbers, runners and other athletes always seem to give something extra for Turner's camera.

Turner's poster "There Is No Finish Line" was one of the first Nike running shoe ads. Another of his Nike ads, "Most Heroes Are Anonymous," was judged best national color ad by the New York Art Directors' Society. The shot of a lone runner silhouetted in full stride came about after Turner sent photos of the city location to a Nike art director.

Turner has received numerous other awards, including the Addy and the New York Art Directors' Gold and Silver Awards. His work has been featured in Communication Arts magazine. He earned a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and spent two years in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer. He has lived in Seattle for the last 28 years and is one of the most prolific stock photography shooters in the United States.
